Margo Eyepatch

If you're looking to recreate Margo’s iconic eye patch from The Magicians for cosplay or Halloween, you're in luck! Here’s a simple guide to crafting your own version using foam and Worbla.

Step 1: Create the Pattern

Start by drawing the shape of Margo’s eye patch on a piece of paper. Her patch is a bit angular with a sleek, elegant design. Make sure to measure it against your face for proper sizing.
Once you're happy with the shape, cut out the paper pattern.

Step 2: Cut the Foam

Place the paper pattern on your foam and trace it. Carefully cut the shape out using scissors or a craft knife.
This foam piece will serve as the base for your eye patch, providing thickness and structure.

Step 3: Apply the Worbla

Heat a piece of Worbla with your heat gun until it becomes pliable.
Carefully lay the heated Worbla over the foam piece, pressing it around the edges and smoothing it out. Worbla will stick to the foam easily as it cools.
Once the Worbla cools and hardens, use your scissors or knife to trim any excess material.
- I have a cast of my head so that helped when heat shaping the worbla form. Do not ever heat the worbla while on your skin! It's hot and will burn you!

Step 4: Shape and Detail

If you want the patch to have a more pronounced shape (like ridges or raised details), you can heat additional pieces of Worbla and add them to the surface. Gently press them down with your fingers while the material is still warm.
Sand the edges with fine sandpaper to smooth them out if needed.

Step 5: Painting

Once the patch is formed, paint it using acrylic paints. Margo’s patch is usually metallic, so silver or gold paints work well.
You can also add designs or gems to make it more elaborate, like some versions of her patch.

Step 6: Attach the Elastic Band

Cut a piece of elastic or ribbon long enough to wrap around your head comfortably.
Use a hot glue gun or contact cement to securely attach the elastic to either side of the eye patch.
